Leadership and development

During change, leadership begins not with a title but with the ability to stay connected to your values, see the next step, and stop demanding the impossible from yourself.

Leadership is not a role you have to perform

When circumstances change quickly, familiar plans stop working. In such periods, it is easy to live according to other people’s expectations: stay strong, control everything, support everyone, and never show fatigue. Real leadership, however, does not require perfection. It begins with an honest understanding of your capacity, boundaries, and responsibilities.

A woman does not lose her leadership qualities when she asks for help, changes a decision, or takes a pause. On the contrary, the ability to recognise reality and adjust direction makes her more resilient and dependable.

Five anchors during change

  1. Your values. Ask what remains important to you regardless of circumstances. Values help you make decisions when there is no ready-made plan.
  2. Boundaries and energy. Decide what you can do now and what needs more time, delegation, or a clear no. Boundaries protect both you and the quality of your work.
  3. A shorter horizon. Do not try to solve the whole year at once. Choose one realistic action for today and one direction for the coming week.
  4. People beside you. Leadership is not a solo marathon. Mentors, colleagues, friends, and professional communities help you see more clearly and avoid becoming trapped in anxiety.
  5. Permission to learn. A mistake does not cancel your competence. It provides information you can use to change a decision and move forward.

The trap of always appearing strong

Leaders are often presented as people who are always confident, answer quickly, and never become tired. This image is harmful: it encourages women to hide doubts and carry more than anyone can sustain. Mature leadership looks different. It allows questions, shared decisions, rest, and a reassessment of priorities.

It is important to distinguish responsibility from self-sacrifice. Responsibility helps build a system; self-sacrifice gradually drains energy and narrows the choices available to you.

A one-week practice

  • What genuinely depends on me right now?
  • What am I still doing only because I fear disappointing others?
  • What single decision would return more time or energy to me?
  • Whom can I ask for advice or support?
  • What can I thank myself for at the end of this week?

Write down your answers and choose one action. Leadership grows through consistent decisions aligned with your values, not through impressive promises.
